Pre Professional Full-Time Programme

AGA’s Pre Professional Full-Time Programme has a proven track record of success, specifically designed for students focused on forging a full-time career in either classical ballet or contemporary dance. It delivers high level, immersive, full-time coaching to students aiming to successfully audition for tertiary level dance institutions such as the New Zealand School of Dance. In the past 10 years over 20 students have graduated and moved on to higher-level training and successful professional careers. Our achievements page has more information on our graduate outcomes.

Designed for dancers 15 years and over, training focuses on becoming fully rounded artists. The programme runs Monday - Friday, 9am - 4pm and consists of balanced classical and contemporary dance training.  Focus is on technique, artistry, dynamics, and conditioning training, while also managing student well being by providing emotional support, personalised strategies, mentoring and guidance. This programme also offers onsite accommodation for students from outside Christchurch.

This enables students to grow and fully develop their personal and dance potential to flourish within a caring and nurturing environment to succeed in the current dance industry climate.

The programme is intended for classical ballet & contemporary dancers who have completed their academic studies, or who have chosen to continue their study by distance learning.

The Programme will prepare dancers for;

  • Opportunities to return to international professional schools when borders re open. Providing daily pre professional level classes to retain strength, continue development, refine technique while receiving support, encouragement and stimulation in a creative environment alongside other dancers and industry professional tutors.

  • The physical and emotional demands of pursuing a career in the professional ballet & contemporary dance industry in a healthy and positive way.

  • Auditions for professional schools, finishing year programmes and junior/studio & youth dance companies.
